TL;DR: Incompetent care from Dr. Quast at Silverlake Veterinary Clinic resulted in my dog’s death.
We initially chose Silverlake for my mother’s dog with recurrent skin infections and seizures. Dr. Gilbert identified a severe yeast and bacterial infection, effectively treated it, and even helped save my mom's Yorkie puppy after a poisoning incident. Her care was exceptional, so I started taking my own dogs to Silverlake.
When Dr. Gilbert went on maternity leave, we were assigned to Dr. Quast, whose care I found lacking from the start. She frequently lost her train of thought, gave inaccurate information, and even misgendered my dogs. These issues made me question her attention to detail and capability.
In September, my almost 3-year-old chihuahua, Chicken, was attacked by a German Shepherd. We rushed him to the emergency vet on 288, who then referred us to Silverlake. We arrived within 30 minutes of the attack. Dr. Quast took him in, claiming she administered pain relief and fluids to stabilize him.
I requested blood work, X-rays, an ultrasound, and any other necessary tests, as I was willing to do anything for my dog. Quast assured me she would handle it. Throughout the day, I called for updates and was repeatedly told that Chicken was doing well. By noon, Quast texted that his blood work and X-rays were fine.
When we arrived at 6 pm, I asked about the ultrasound. Quast admitted she hadn’t done it, saying she "didn't have time." Despite my concerns, she said Chicken was likely stable but suggested taking him to the 288 emergency hospital for overnight care. We paid Silverlake over $2,000.
Had Quast done multiple blood analyses, she would have seen Chicken’s declining values. Had she performed the ultrasound, she would have found the internal bleeding that was missed. These critical oversights cost us precious time.
At the 288 hospital, Chicken’s condition visibly worsened. His breathing was rapid, and he was unresponsive. They were unprepared for how critical he was, so we took him to an ICU in Sugarland. There, the team immediately identified that he was in shock, with a heart rate over 200 and low blood pressure—all day. Within 30 minutes, they stabilized him and had a treatment plan. Before I left, Chicken lifted his head, put it in my hands, and closed his eyes—I didn't know it then but now I have to believe it was a final goodbye.
Not long after we got home, the ICU called. Chicken had stopped breathing, and despite their best efforts, they couldn’t revive him. I was devastated. My husband asked the ICU vet how this could happen when we were told he was stable all day. The vet said, "Based on his records, it seems he had ineffective care throughout the day. This put him behind a curve he couldn’t overcome."
In other words, Dr. Quast’s negligence and failure to conduct the necessary tests led to my dog’s death. Her lack of thorough, timely care cost me my baby. I trusted Silverlake because of Dr. Gilbert’s excellence, but Dr. Quast failed us when we needed her most. This experience has left me heartbroken, and I want others to be aware of the risks of entrusting their pets to her care.

Who knew that onions were toxic for dogs! I was so thankful for the expert care and concern provided by Dr. Burrell and the ENTIRE staff at Silverlake Animal Hospital. Arthur turned out to be just fine after eating a piece of onion on Thanksgiving!

Dr Quast, front desk ladies and the vet tech were very sweet to Rue while she had her visit. She was contagious with what was likely kennel cough. It was really nice that we were able to go straight to the exam room and pay for her visit and receive a receipt while we were still in the exam room. It shows the staff keeps other clients in mind and takes measures to keep them as safe as possible so their furry friends don’t get sick.

We were very impressed with the customer service. They made us feel like our giant puppy Rocco was a long time patient. Thank you all for making Rocco feel comfy before and after his surgery. We greatly appreciate at how detailed all the information was and especially y'all's friendliness.

We took our 15 year old cat in for a checkup and pain injection. I asked for the labs to be drawn in the patient room, and they agreed. I was able to talk to our cat and ease his anxiety through the process. Dr. Quast examined him and answered our questions. He got his shot and we went home. The following day, Dr. Quast called with his lab results. The whole process was convenient and went smoothly. We ve been going to this clinic since it opened.
